Afcor Africa is the majority shareholder in specific oil reserves in the Republic of Mauritania to the approximate combined size of 12 000 km2.
These oil reserves (on and off-shore) are currently being developed by Afcor and it’s Mauritanian partner company.
Oil rich Mauritania
Mauritania’s first oil reserves were discovered in 2001; with the first oil drawn in February 2006.
Commercially viable oil fields in Mauritania in 1 offshore production zone have been estimated to hold approximately 310 million barrels. With an average production of 45 000 barrels per day (bpd) the expected production period is approximately 20 years.
In 2006 oil revenues represented 30% of total revenues and 12% of non-oil GDP.
